Examining the idea of the museum as arbiter of cultural worth and its relationship to the local art scene, Carrera and Horne referenced the prediction of Andy Warhol, taking inspiration from a painting in the Museum’s permanent collection: Roland Petersen’s Shaded Figure (1968.) Carrera and Horne created a tableau vivant within an oversized gilded frame that mimicked the composition of Petersen’s work. 56 local artists were invited to act as a “stand in” for Petersen’s figure in this interactive installation, each artist stepping in to the “frame” with their own work every 15 minutes with the public invited and encouraged to interact with the artists.
